Umbrella Academy season 3: Everything we know about the return of the Hargreeves siblings so far

Eccentric billionaire, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, and his team of quirky superheroes are ready to return to our screens for a third run. Introducing new characters and settings, a new timeline and reality, the third season promises a lot of potential and the thrill of revelation of great many secrets, when the Umbrella Academy meets the Sparrow Academy.

Based on the classic graphic novel series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the previous two seasons of the show explored the Hargreeves siblings coming to terms with their powers, stopping their sister Vanya from turning into a monster, time travelling and preventing multiple apocalypses, and finally returning to their original timeline.

Future plotline

The second season ended on a major cliff-hanger, with the Hargreeves siblings using a time-traveling briefcase to return to 2019 and discovering that their reality has been changed. Instead of the Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves has set up a Sparrow Academy, with new superheroes taking their place in the family. Therefore, the bulk of The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will quite understandably involve the Sparrow Academy, their pasts, their connections to our heroes and some spicy drama.

Cast

Apart from the return of the old faces of Tom Hopper as Luther, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, David Castañeda as Diego, Aidan Gallagher as Five, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, and Elliot Page as Vanya, new members will also be introduced in the cast.

Justin H Min will be seen in the avatar of a completely different Ben Hargreeves in the new timeline. Coming to the superheroes of the Sparrow Academy, we have Justin Cornwell, Jake Epstein, Britne Oldford, Cazzie David, and Genesis Rodriguez. Colm Feore, Ritu Arya, Adam Godley, and Jordan Claire Robbins may also come back in their recurring roles as Sir Reginald Hargreeves, Lila Pitts, Pogo, and Grace Hargreeves respectively, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Release Date

The third instalment of the Umbrella Academy was announced in November 2020, with the shooting beginning, three months later in February 2021. However the pandemic and the subsequent protocols have delayed a lot of production work, throwing the schedule into a toss.  So, even in the best-case scenario, the earliest fans can expect the new season would be late 2021, with the series most likely to be streamed much later, even in mid-2022.
