The tournament will kickstart by paying tribute to the county's beloved der ‘Kaisar’ (the Emperor) Franz Beckenbauer. The legendary footballer breathed his last on January 7 this year. Germany won the World Cup under his leadership – once as a captain in 1974 and then as the team manager in 1990. His wife Heidi Beckenbauer will be present at the opening match and she will bring the cup – the Henri Delaunay Trophy. Germany's two skippers Bernard Dietz and Juergen Klinsmann will join Heidi Beckenbauer.
There will not be any opening ceremony per se. The first match will take place on June 14 (June 15 IST). The inauguration concert took place on June 13 at Schlossplatz in Stuttgart. At this open city square, artists like SWR DJ, singer Leony, German EDM star Topic, and DJs Robin Schulz, Le Shuuk, and others enthralled the audience.
