Udal OTT release date confirmed - When and where to watch Dhyan Sreenivasan’s horror drama

The much-awaited OTT release date of Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer 2022 film Udal has finally been announced. Helmed by debutant director Ratheesh Reghunandan, the horror drama movie also features Durga Krishna and Indrans in pivotal roles. Released on May 20 last year, the movie failed to perform at the box office, and was said to be struggling to find an OTT partner. Nonetheless, the makers have now managed to sell Udal’s OTT rights to Saina Play. It will be available to stream on the regional digital platform from January 5.

Saina Play took to its social media pages to announce the release date of the movie. “‘UDAL’ STREAMING ON SAINA PLAY FROM JAN 5th! Official OTT Trailer OUT - Watch now on Saina Movies! (sic),” read the caption.

Shiny (Durga) is a homemaker, who has quit her job after her marriage. During the lockdown, she gets stranded at her husband’s house and is bound to take care of her ailing mother-in-law. She feels suffocated due to the lack of help from others. Meanwhile, she gets involved in an extramarital affair with Kiran, who used to be her collegemate. They eventually decide to elope, but things don’t go as planned. What happens next forms the crux of Udal. Indrans plays the role of a visually challenged antagonist, who terrorises his daughter-in-law and her lover, leading to a bloodbath.

Udal’s cast and crew

Jude Anthany Joseph plays the role of Shiny’s husband. Udal was written and directed by Ratheesh, while cinematography was handled by Manoj Pillai and editing was done by Nishad Yousaf. William Francis scored the music for the film.

Hindi remake of Udal to be headlined by Naseeruddin Shah?

According to news reports, Udal is likely to be remade in Hindi with Naseeruddin Shah essaying the character portrayed by Indrans in the original film. Ratheesh is expected to helm the Bollywood remake as well. The Hindi film is said to be financed by Gokulam Gopalan, who had produced Udal.
