The OTT release of the Malayalam horror movie Udal, starring Dhyan Sreenivasan, Durga Krishna and Indrans, was delayed for more than a year.
Udal, the Malayalam horror drama, was almost on the verge of falling into oblivion. However, it has come back into the spotlight after it finally managed to find a streaming partner.
Udal, starring Dhyan Sreenivasan, Durga Krishna and Indrans in the lead roles, will soon premiere on Saina Play. However, the OTT release date of the film is yet to be announced by the streaming platform.
Udal was released in cinemas last year in May. The film generated a lot of interest among the movie buffs even though it received mixed reactions. Many were hoping that the movie might find a wider reach following its streaming debut. However, for more than a year, the film remained locked in storage.
While the producers remained tight-lipped about the movie's streaming fate, Dhyan had earlier said, "I am not sure about the movie’s OTT release. The director and producer would know it better. But plans are afoot to release Udal in other languages, including Hindi. The director told me that they are going to defer the OTT release, because of this plan to remake. I believe that is the case. I am unaware of any other information.”
It's unclear whether the producers have abandoned their plans to remake this film in other languages.

Based on the trailer, Udal promises to deliver an edge-of-the-seat thriller. It seems to have taken some inspiration from Hollywood's big hit Don't Breathe, which is about a blind man, who traps and murders a group of thieves who break into his house.
In Udal, Indrans takes on the antagonist role as he terrorizes his daughter-in-law and her lover, leading to a bloodbath. The film is said to be set against the backdrop of the forced isolation caused by the Covid outbreak.
