This Summer, be prepared for the seat-gripping disaster movie of the season, with Twisters coming our way. The tornado disaster thriller features the starry likes of Glen Powell & Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Twisters is Oscar-nominated director Lee Isaac Chung’s upcoming summer amuse-bouche, that may just triumph the main course and desserts. As Amblin Entertainment’s latest venture, the film will be produced by Jurassic franchise collaborators Frank Marshall and Patrick Cowley.
As for the film’s screenplay, it will be written by The Revenant fame, Mark L. Smith and will highlight a current-day chapter that follows the 1996 original Twisters, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. Releasing on July 19, 2024, Universal Pictures shared the trailer earlier today at the Superbowl.
The film follows the journey of Daisy Edgar-Jones' Kate Cooper and Glen Powell’s Tyler Owens, as they chase storm season and tornadoes, colloquially termed as ‘twisters’, for their respective reasons, but eventually unite in purpose, when faced by such an extreme force of nature.
While former storm chaser Kate Cooper prefers studying storm patterns on screens in New York City, after a devastating tornado encounter in her past, Tyler Owens is reckless, charming social media influencer who thrives on chasing storms with his raucous crew and posting it online, the deadlier the better.
When Kate’s friend Javi, essayed by Anthony Ramos, coaxes her into returning to the open plains to test out a groundbreaking new storm tracking system, her path crosses with the cocky Tyler, and sparks erupt. However, to help those sparks turn into a flame, one needs to escape being doused by a tornado first. And the latest Twisters features two of them, twin tornadoes.
As the storm season intensifies, Tyler and Kate may be in for the fight of their lives as multiple storm systems converge over Central Oklahoma. The trailer features intense scenes, a brutal struggle for survival, attempts to escape the storm, and loss, oh so much loss of life and property. Though the graphics appear mostly decent, the exciting plot premise assures a captivating watch.
