Sohum Shah's Tumbbad is likely to compete with Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao's Stree 2 at the Box Office
Sohum Shah's Tumbbad sees a successful re-release in theatres. The movie is out now and according to early figure, the Box Office opening for this film could be the highest for a re-release in theatres. The film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, has sold 21,000 tickets already and is likely to earn Rs. 1 crore on its opening day. Here’s what the early trends suggest…
During its initial theatrical release, Tumbbad had earned Rs. 13 crores at the Box Office. Now, Pinkvilla reports that the early trends suggest the film could earn Rs. 1 crore at the Box Office at least on the opening day.
The craze for Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad is real. In the times when a horror-comedy like Stree 2 is already performing well at the Box Office, the demand for horror is at the peak and after watching Tumbbad on OTT, many believe it is cinema, and thus, they want to gather in theatres to watch the film.
21,000 tickets were sold out for Tumbbad and this is just the initial numbers. Most of the tickets sold were in multiplexes.
Sohum Shah had informed ETimes that Tumbbad 2 is in the scripting stage. However, he has not set a timeline just to give in to the pressure of turning the film into a franchise. However, the actor does hope to turn the film into a franchise with at least Tumbbad 2 and 3, depending on how and where the script goes.
Among the other re-releases in theatres, Shah Rukh Khan-Preity Zinta’s Veer-Zaara is also out today. However, the movie has not generated as much Box Office buzz as expected. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders is the newer release in cinemas, but the film also does not seem to have a huge win at the Box Office, as per the early trends. It would be interesting to see if Stree 2 can still hold up, and if Stree 2 and Tumbbad will be competing against each other over the weekend.
