Tuesday Trivia: Aditya Dhar on how he paid tribute to Hrithik Roshan’s Lakshya in Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri

Aditya Dhar seemed to have knocked it out of the park with his directorial debut film, Uri: The Surgical Strike, which starred Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The critically acclaimed film had garnered a string of accolades to its name, including four National Awards as well. Aditya recently opened up about the connection between his film and the 2004 Hrithik Roshan starrer Lakshya.

In conversation with Pinkvilla, the filmmaker revealed that the name of Vicky’s character, Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, was inspired by Hrithik’s character in Lakshya, who was called Captain Karan Sheirgill. Aditya said that he absolutely loved Lakshya and wanted to pay tribute to Hrithik’s character. That was the reason he chose the surname of ‘Sheirgill’ for Vicky’s character as well.

Sharing another trivia, Aditya spoke of the sequence in the film where a clock can be seen at the bottom of the frame when the surgical strike commences in the film. The filmmaker made sure to keep the timings in the clock in all multiples of 3, as it was Aditya’s lucky number.

The filmmaker also opened up about the prep the team went through for the film. The cast had undergone training for four months, half of which were spent training with the army. The rest of the two months saw the cast train in mixed martial arts and other forms of physical training. The action sequences for the film had also been choreographed during those sessions, and Aditya said that the makers had hired a ground for the cast to train in as well. The filmmaker said that he had fond memories of those sessions and also recalled the work the cast put into perfecting the body language of the soldiers as well.

Uri: The Surgical Strike and Lakshya can be streamed on ZEE5 and Netflix respectively.
