True Story: Kevin Hart on how he ‘took it up a notch’ in new Netflix mini series

Kevin Hart is here to show the world that comedy is not the only thing he can take in his stride, with his recent Netflix show True Story. According to him, the crime drama served as a way for the actor to further tap into his dramatic side.

In conversation with Variety, Hart mentioned how excited he had been at being given the opportunity to do a role different from his usual ones. He knew he had what it took to explore the drama genre further, says the actor, and that he could do it effectively.

The actor also mentions how he had explored a little of his serious side in his films like Fatherhood (2021) and Upside (2017). Even though most of his fans knew him for starring in action adventure films and comedies, his foray into dramatic films had pleasantly surprised them, Hart adds.

With regard to his latest Netflix limited series, Hart revealed that he had tried to ‘take it up a notch’ and he was hopeful audiences would appreciate his performance.

True Story executive producer Eric Newman also revealed that Hart’s longtime comedy fans would be appreciative of his performance in the Netflix series.

The thriller series tells the story of a famous comedian who decides to visit his estranged brother during his comedy tour. But things go awry, and the comedian finds himself in the midst of some dangerous gangsters.

In addition to Hart, the series also stars Wesley Snipes, William Catlett, Lauren London and Paul Adelstein, among others.

True Story is available for streaming on Netflix.
