Re-releasing old hit movies is the latest fad in Tollywood. Though the trend is nothing new, it became popular after Mahesh Babu's Pokkiri, which re-released this year, garnered phenomenal response from moviegoers. This was followed by Pawan Kalyan's Jalsa and Prabhas' Billa which witnessed re-releases on the stars' respective birthdays recently.
Sobhan's Varsham is the latest Telugu movie to have had a re-release. The superhit film, which hit the screens again on November 11, was a Sankranti outing in 2004. Fans of Prabhas and Trisha are having a gala time watching the romantic drama on screen.
Some of them have been taking to social media to post pictures and videos of the celebration they are experiencing from theatres. An excited Trisha, who seems to be overwhelmed with the response, took to her Twitter page to thank her fans for the love she has been garnering.
She also posted a video clip of elated fans dancing for the ever popular song Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana which became an instant chartbuster after the film's release 18 years ago. Interestingly, Varsham was also the actress' Tollywood debut.
Along with the hashtags "my heart is full" and "varsham", she tweeted "18 years later…A re-release…My first Telugu film…Still feels like yesterday..Just goes to prove “Films are forever” and I repeat for the 9456743 time “I AM because of you all” (sic)."
The movie made Trisha one of the most sought-after actresses in Telugu and also elevated the stardom of Prabhas. Gopichand's performance as the antagonist and music by Devi Sri Prasad are other highlights of the film. The movie was later remade in Tamil, Odia and Hindi under the titles Mazhai, Barsa My Darling and Baaghi respectively. Varsham is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
