Nayanthara and Trisha are in contention to play MS Subbulakshmi onscreen.

After actors Dhanush and Sathyaraj were announced to be headlining the biopics of Ilaiyaraaja and Narendra Modi respectively, news is that a biopic on veteran Carnatic singer and Bharat Ratna awardee late MS Subbulakshmi is in the making. Actors Nayanthara and Trisha are in contention to play the titular role. However, no official announcement has been made so far in this regard.

Trisha or Nayanthara for MS Subbulakshmi biopic?

As per a DT Next report, the film is expected to hit theatres by 2025 with the makers coming from Karnataka. A leading production house from Bengaluru is reportedly behind the project, with the pre-production said to have begun already. The report also added that the scripting works have been nearing completion, with Nayanthara and Trisha being considered to play the role. Actor Rashmika Mandanna’s name has also been considered. However, an official confirmation regarding the same is yet to be made by the team. More details are set to come out once the project is made official.

MS Subbulakshmi was the first musician to be awarded Bharat Ratna and also became the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. Hailing from a Madurai family of musicians, MS Subbulakshmi was a Carnatic vocalist and also trained in Hindustani music. She primarily sang devotional songs and appeared in a handful of Tamil films as well.

Trisha and Nayanthara’s films

Trisha was last seen in Vijay-starrer Leo. The actor is working on multiple projects across languages, including Ajith’s Vidaa Muyarchi, Identity alongside Tovino Thomas and Mohanlal-starrer Ram in Malayalam, Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara in Telugu and Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life.

On the other hand, Nayanthara was last seen in Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food. The actor has The Test alongside Madhavan and Siddharth. Nayanthara will also share screen space with Nivin Pauly in Dear Student and recently wrapped up shooting for Mannangatti Since 1960, directed by Dude Vicky.
