Names like Mrunal Thakur, Srinidhi Shetty, Samyukta Menon, Sai Pallavi and Shraddha Kapoor had been doing the rounds as potential leading ladies of Yash19, but turns out, none of them maybe true
In the months before Rocking Star Yash finally confirmed that he is, indeed, going to be working with Moothon maker Geetu Mohandas, Yash19 was one of the most widely discussed subjects on social media. While Geetu’s involvement was taken as a given after the leading man’s official fan club confirmed a woman filmmaker, the heroine slot was widely speculated. Netizens tracked Geetu’s social media activity keenly and came up with names every time she followed someone new; while also discussing their wish-lists about who they’d like to see opposite the Rocking Star. Mrunal Thakur, Shraddha Kapoor, Srinidhi Shetty, Sai Pallavi, etc. have all been widely discussed, but if the buzz on social media is anything to go by, all this speculation has been wrong and how!
Yash 19: Every time Geetu Mohandas follows someone on social media, there’s new speculation
After Salaar actress Shruti Haasan was named as the vocalist of the Toxic title track, she was named as one of three leading ladies that the film will reportedly have. This morning’s update was that Kareena Kapoor Khan is set to join the film when it goes on floors in April this year. A source has confirmed this casting to Filmfare, but the team is yet to make an official announcement. That would mean only one spot remains to be filled and at least that should ideally be local talent. So far, other than Yash, no other Kannada talent is known to be on the cast or crew of Toxic. Charanraj was rumoured to be the music director, but the title track was composed by a UK based musician.
Produced by KVN Productions, Toxic is set to be in theatres on April 10, 2025. In an earlier interview, Geetu had said that she was looking at presenting a gangster tale with a female perspective, but rumours also suggest that the film could be about Goa’s drug mafia in the 60s and 70s.
