Tovino Thomas files defamation case against YouTuber for cyber abuse

2018 actor Tovino Thomas has filed a defamation case against an Instagram user. The actor made a complaint to the Director General of Police seeking action against the user, and subsequently, an FIR has been registered at the Panangadu Police Station. According to the complaint, the social media user has been continuously abusing him on the user's social media handle and Tovino is said to have also shared a link to the user's posts on Instagram as evidence. Meanwhile, the police have assured that the investigation is underway.
The number of defamation cases involving actors is increasing, with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Bala among those who have recently filed cases. Prithviraj's case is against a Malayalam online portal that accused him of tax evasion and that he was forced a fine of Rs. 25 crore to the Enforcement Directorate. The actor denied these allegations on social media and later filed a suit for Rs 10 crores - an injunction was passed in Prithviraj's favour, preventing the media channel from publishing any defamatory content about him.
Actor Bala, too, has filed a lawsuit against YouTuber Aju Alex, alleging defamation. Aju had previously accused Bala of trespassing and threatening his friend with a gun, but Bala denies the allegations, stating that Aju's statements are false and made with an ulterior motive.
Meanwhile, Tovino's upcoming release is Ajayante Randam Moshanam in which the actor essays three characters. The film is a period action drama, which is touted to have exhilarating action sequences and impressive visuals. Helmed by debutant Jithin Lal, the film features Krithi Shetty, Aishwarya Rajessh, and Surabhi Lakshmi as three female leads. Tovino is currently filming Lal Jr's Nadikar Thilakam which also features Soubin Shahir in a lead role.
After Nadikar Thilakam, Tovino will join Identity, an action thriller by the makers of Forensic. Trisha essays the female lead in the movie which also features Vinay Rai in a major role. Identity is mounted on a large scale with the presence of a Hollywood stunt director whose name, is yet to be revealed.
