Tom Cruise’s Top Gun made fans jump in excitement in 1986 because of its high-flying action. So when Cruise made a sequel to it, Top Gun: Maverick, 30 years later, one would expect the action to be doubled. Miles Teller, who plays an important role in the sequel, has now revealed an instance from the movie’s filming, where he thought he was going to die.

Talking to LADbible, Teller revealed, “I definitely had a moment where I thought I was going to die. There was a sequence where we were heading straight towards the ground and you do what’s called a max G pull-up. You’re heading down and at the last second you yank up, and it’s really tough for the pilot.”

The actor added that while this is something the pilots have been trained for, it was the first time he was doing a manoeuvre such as that and at that point, he stopped acting. He further added that he looked at the ground and thought that this was not going to end well for him.

All the actors involved in the flying sequences were put in actual fighter jets for filming. The actors had to go through rigourous training as well to get ready for production, led by Tom Cruise himself.

The sequel sees Cruise reprising his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who is now a test pilot for the navy. He is soon called back to Top Gun academy to train a group of pilots for a dangerous mission.

Teller plays Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s friend and Radio Intercept Officer, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. The movie has received glowing reviews from critics and has done well at the box office too.

“Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel that could end up being spoken in the same sentence as the likes of The Godfather Part II and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. While the filmmaking takes the viewers right into the world of fast-flying jets, the writing is able to give the movie a certain emotional core that cannot be replaced,” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Also starring Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, and a special cameo from Val Kilmer, the movie is now available in theatres around the country.
