Spider-Man: No Way Home brought back many big villains from the Spider-Man universe and it seems like we are about to meet two of them again.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gears up for its new phase with a solid strategy and foolproof plans for two upcoming Avengers films, Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars fans are eagerly awaiting updates on these massive projects. However, none of these can match the buzz surrounding the future of Spider-Man in the MCU beyond Spider-Man: No Way Home. There have been many rumours about the future, with some suggesting the studio wants to keep the story grounded while others hint at a tug-of-war with Sony. We’ve also heard that the fourth film might include Venom, but not as the main villain. The latest news, however is about an entire new trilogy.
There have been rumours about Marvel and Sony planning a new trilogy centred on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, following the success of his first trilogy, which included Homecoming Far From Home, and No Way Home. While this new trilogy was never officially confirmed, a recent update sheds light on the studio’s plans for the neighbourhood superhero. According to the latest update, rumours suggest the new villains that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will face.
Despite the lack of concrete progress on Spider-Man 4 the rumour mill is buzzing about the new trilogy. According to scooper Alex Perez (via Comic Book Movie), Spider-Man in his new trilogy will face off against Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. There are no details on which film will feature which villain, but considering this could be the final three films in which Tom Holland plays the web-slinging superhero, it sounds very exciting.
Alex Perez wrote, “Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin will be, if not, the final villains Holland’s Spider-Man faces when his time as Spider-Man comes to an end.” However, this raises some confusion since Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn confirmed that none of his variants exist on Earth-616 and he was sent back by Peter in No Way Home. This could mean the studio plans to cast new actors for both villains. Only time will tell.

There have been rumours that Venom will make his way into Spider-Man 4 because of the post-credit scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home where a piece of Symbiote was left behind on Earth-616. However, it is said that Venom will not be the main villain in the story. There is no confirmation on whether Tom Hardy will return to play the part or if the Symbiote will find a new host.
