Tom Holland Was The First Choice For 1917

The nuances of the war drama 1917 are something that we love to explore every single time we watch the film. The drama, directed by Sam Mendes, is one of the most artistic pieces of content in a genre crowded with some of the finest movies. The way Mendes brought to life the story of two corporals facing war with the duty to be messengers is impeccable, and there is no way the movie will fade for viewers for at least the next few decades. But 1917 would not have been 1917 without the brilliant contributions of the two leading men played by Dean-Charles Chapman and George Mackay. The two actors took the world by storm with their acting chops. But what if we tell you Dean was not the first choice for the part, and it has Spider-Man written all over it?

According to a That Hashtag Show report from September 2018, Tom Holland was in talks to play the role of Lance Corporal Tom Blake. The report claimed that Tom was even attached to the lead role for a very brief period. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the star had to let the role pass, and Dean-Charles Chapman came into the picture, and the rest, as we know, is history.

However, this is still not confirmed information, but as per several reports, Tom Holland was busy finishing the reshoots of Chaos Walking directed by Doug Liman, and that killed his chances of getting on board in 1917. 1917 was filmed over 20 weeks, beginning in April, around the same time Holland was busy with the reshoots of Chaos Walking.
