The comments had been made by Joe Russo, co-director of Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame had certainly left long time fans heartbroken with the unexpected, yet noble death of one of the most beloved MCU superheroes- Iron Man. Although Robert Downey Jr. left a huge gap in the MCU fabric in his wake, director Joe Russo seemed to think Tom Holland was a worthy successor to the seasoned star.
In conversation with GQ, the filmmaker had talked about how he felt that Holland’s Spider Man could become the new face and soul of the superhero universe. And he could do that by becoming the next fan favourite character after Iron Man’s exit.
Holland recently revealed what he had to say about Russo’s claims while being interviewed by ComicBook. In his ever so humble way, the star said that while he felt honoured by Russo’s comments, he did not feel he could be called the face of Marvel as yet. Holland did however agree with the filmmaker about Spider Man having a huge fan following.
The actor then went on to talk about how supportive the MCU actors are, saying that whoever fans choose to lead the universe, the chosen person would always be backed by every other player in the franchise. Holland also recalled how Downey had done a similar thing for him as well, giving the former some much needed wisdom when he needed it.
Holland will next be seen in the latest addition to the Spider Man franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film will be released in India December 16.
