Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick delayed, here are the new release dates

The delay is due to the surge in numbers of delta variants and theatres not operating at 100% capacity,

Paramount is pushing the release dates of two of its big Tom Cruise projects - Mission: Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick - back due to the surge in delta variants of coronavirus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mission: Impossible 7 will release on September 30, 2022, instead of May 27, 2022, and Top Gun: Maverick will debut on May 2, 2022, instead of November 19, 2021.

Mission: Impossible 7 will be the seventh instalment in the fan-favorite Mission: Impossible franchise. The franchise has seen massive success over the years and the studio is eyeing another big movie. The six movies together have grossed over $3.57 billion.

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the classic action film Top Gun which also starred Tom Cruise along with Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis. The movie has now been pushed back to Mission: Impossible 7’s old release date.

Both sequels are massive projects for Cruise and the studio, and while it is understandable why they would take the decision to push the release dates further forward, it comes as disappointing news to fans.

While actors like Hayley Atwell have wrapped filming for their portion for Missions: Impossible 7 the movie which follows the globe-trotting spy is still under production. The delay of the seventh instalment also raises questions over Mission: Impossible 8 which is currently slated for a release in 2023. Initially, the plan was to shoot both the movies back to back, but this changed with the pandemic.
