Swarup Biswas – the president of the Federation of Cine Technicians & Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI), is in legal trouble. The members of The Directors' Association of Eastern India slapped a Rs 23 cr defamation case against Biswas for a statement he made earlier this year. In an effort to launch an app to ensure workplace safety and security, Biswas has stated that 60% of the allegations of sexual harassment were against the director.

In response to the allegations of sexual harassment, the Federation came up with an app Suraksha Sathi in September. While talking about the initiative, Biswas told the media, “If we quantify the allegations and reports in terms of percentage, about 40% of allegations are against the producers and 60% of the allegations are against directors and those who turned producers from directors.”

His comment created a stir within the Bengali entertainment industry. The directors sent him a legal notice and asked him to send an ‘unconditional apology and “retract” the “virulent and malafide statements within 72 hours of receiving the notice.”

Now, according to reports, 233 directors, including Srijit Mukherji, Parambrata Chatterjee, Kaushik Ganguly, and others, took the matter to the next level.

This defamation case, according to the reports, is not filed by any organisation. Director Subrata Sen, president of the Directors' Association of Eastern India, clarified the matter. While talking to Pratidin Digital, Parambrata said, “A perpetrator-molester can come from any background, including technicians, actors, producers, directors, and exhibitors. It is a heinous crime, and they should be identified in broad daylight without any effort to shield them. But how can one humiliate just one group of people who actually bring fame and glory to the industry?”
