The actress had recently won the award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie Raahgir - The Wayfarers.
Tillotama Shome has been recently making headlines since she received some nasty comments on social media. She had called out the hater through her tweet, which is the talk of the town for a while. In a recent chat with Hindustan Times, she opened about her insights and take on the issue, and explained what led her to take the action.
Tillotama said that she receives negative comments rarely and this was the recent one where a hater called her a ‘flop actress’ and commented ‘looks like a maid’. She said she didn’t intend to respond to the flop actress part, but the second line was harmful as it reflected the deep-rooted biases in our society around beauty, class and caste standards. Shome added the ugly intersections like these have given birth to such stupidities and it needs to be called out.
Tillotama doesn’t care about what others feel about her as an actor, but the comment about the maid was like an insult to her. Further opening-up, she said that compliments are sometimes trickier territories. She seems to require a face-to-face meeting to unpack since the social media response would not be enough as its implications are too insidious.

The actress who had appeared in films like Qissa, Raahgir-The Wayfarers and Sir has recently won the Best Actress award at the South Asian Film Festival for the movie Raahgir. To the question about the importance of awards, she responded that, though she is grateful to the jury, the winning felt like a movie within a movie. Her win will be the entire win of the team according to her since filmmaking is a collaborative work.
