The film, produced by Kangana Ranaut and also starring Avneet Kaur, is the story of two junior artists with dreams to make it big in Bollywood
Nawazuddin Siddiqui started his journey from zero and went on to become one of the biggest heroes of independent cinema in the last decade.
Having acted in award-winning films like Raman Raghav 2.0, Manto, Gangs of Wasseypur, Talaash, The Lunchbox, Badlapur, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, to name a few, the actor got emotional during the trailer launch of his upcoming film Tiku Weds Sheru when he recalled a humiliating incident.
Asked if he took any real-life inspiration for his character in Tiku Weds Sheru, Nawazuddin said, "Yes. I play a junior artist in the film, and when it comes to my own journey in the film industry, I not only did secondary characters, but I was also one of those actors who used to stand in the crowd. An incident coming to my mind right now is when I was in the make-up room once. I remember I was on a film set along with four of my friends and all of us were junior artists, and we were standing in a queue for our makeup. The makeup artist came to us, put some powder on the palm of his hand and blew it on our faces and said, 'Ho gaya tum log ka makeup, ab jao.' So, yes, I dealt with such harsh reality and rude behaviour in my initial days, but laughed about it as well. I survived."
After playing small parts in various films, Nawazuddin played the lead character in Miss Lovely that went on to become a National Award-winning film.
Nawazuddin recalled, "During the shoot of Miss Lovely, many of my friends who were present on the set as junior artists were surprised to see me. They asked me why I was there and when I told them that I was the hero of the film l, they were shocked. I told them not to reveal that they are my friend."
Tiku Weds Sheru, directed by Sai Kabir, also stars Zakir Hussain, Vipin Sharma, Mukesh S Bhatt, Suresh Vishwakarma, and Khushi Bhardwaj. It releases on Amazon Prime Video on June 23.
