Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Pranjal Khandhdhiya, and Neha Anand, Kacchey Limbu had its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 12. The producers too were present at the premiere and later participated in the Q&A session with TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey.
Speaking about the origins of his unique story and how cricket is an inherent part of it, writer-director Shubham Yogi alluded to the fact that the years growing up in Mumbai shaped the narrative a certain way.
“The story is essentially about the siblings and cricket, per se. Because the sport is such a daily thing in Mumbai and you see it being played around you all the time, it serves as a backdrop to our story. So, in that sense, the fact that our female protagonist plays and is involved in cricket isn’t such a radical thing – though you would find mostly boys playing cricket on the streets, it’s not a shocker that a girl would join in.”
Shubham Yogi, prior to making his feature debut, has directed short films such as Uninvited, Glitch, Suno, and Kaande Pohe.
At the same Q&A session, the cast of the film spoke about the challenges they faced because of the pandemic and how the honest energy on the sets helped them wade through it all.
