The wait for Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham keeps getting longer. The movie’s release date, which was announced as June 3 a week ago, has been postponed again. This is the third time that the film’s release date has been moved after it was initially slotted for a May 2021 theatrical release and later in January 2022.

While the makers deferred on the May 2021 release due to the second lockdown forcing theatres in Kerala to be shut, the January 2022 date was pushed due to an issue with the film’s distributors. According to reports, the movie’s team had signed with a distributor for the film in 2022 and this led to the former company filing a legal case, citing violation of contract.

This seemed to have been sorted, but now the makers have stated that due to a legal issue the film’s release date has been pushed by one more week. Thuramukham will now hit theatres on June 10, setting up a clash with Tovino Thomas’ Dear Friend and Dev Mohan’s Panthrand.

The makers of Thuramukham had taken to their social media page a few days ago to announce that they are committed to release the movie in theatres and had also noted the inconvenience caused to the audience, theatre exhibitors and people who have worked on the film in the past three years.

Thuramukham, which is scripted by Gopan Chidambaram, is based on the chappa system that existed in Cochin harbour in the early 1900s and was abolished in 1960s. The movie, set in the 1940s and 50s, tells the stories of the daily-wage labourers who had to fight among themselves for the right to work and eke out a living.

Apart from Nivin Pauly, the movie also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Poornima Indrajith, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan and Sudev Nair as part of its cast.
