According to reports, the film beat Vijay's Varisu, which released on the same date, as far as its collections in Tamil Nadu are concerned. The film continues to receive footfalls in theatres even after a month since its release.
Thunivu is an action entertainer helmed by H Vinoth and the plot revolves around a bank heist that goes awry after a mysterious person named Dark Devil hijacks the operation. The star cast includes Ajith, Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Veera, GM Sundar, Bagavathi Perumal, Ciby Chandran, Amir and Pavani Reddy to name a few. While the cinematography is by Nirav Shah, the editing is by Vijay Velukutty. The film is bankrolled by Boney Kapoor, who had earlier produced the duo's Valimai and Nerkonda Paarvai.
This is Ajith's maiden collaboration with Manju Warrier and the latter, too, has done some heavy-duty action scenes in the film.
