Thrishanku, which has Anna Ben and Arjun Ashokan in lead, hit theatres on May 26
Thrishanku, the debut Malayalam production of Matchbox Pictures that had backed Ayushmann Khurrana’s Andhadhun and Rajkummar Rao’s Monica, O My Darling, hit theatres on May 26. The film’s streaming rights were picked by a major OTT platform much before its theatrical release.
Starring Anna Ben and Arjun Ashokan in the lead, Thrishanku, which is a comedy entertainer, is helmed by debutant Achyuth Vinayak and co-sripted by Ajith Nair and Achyuth. Suresh Krishna, Nandu, Zarin Shihab, Fahim Safar and Krishnakumar are also part of the movie.
The film’s OTT rights have been bagged by Netflix, which is expected to premiere the movie by the last week of June. Both Andhadhun and Monica, O My Darling’s OTT rights were also sold to Netflix by the producers.
The Malayalam movie revolves around two youngsters – Sethu and Megha – who decide to elope. But their plan is foiled after Sethu finds out that his sister has eloped with her collegemate. Sethu along with his two squabbling uncles then board a bus to Mangalore to search for his sister, while Megha tags along. How the unlikely team try to find Sethu’s sister and bring her home, while also tackling their conundrum form the plot of the film.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Anna, who plays Megha in the movie and teamed up with Arjun for the first time in her career, said, “It is a fun movie. We wanted to do something like Priyan sir’s comedies. Thrishanku is a movie that I feel confident would make people laugh and also dance because we have killer music in the film.”
The actress further added that the film offered her a change from the “gritty and intense” roles that she has been doing. “I had been doing gritty films where my characters were going through a lot of struggles and trauma, and so I felt that I wanted to try a fun movie too,” she said.
