Team India wins the Thomas cup

It's as big as it gets for Indian badminton as the players won their first-ever Thomas Cup gold on Sunday, May 15, defeating 14-time winners Indonesia with 3-0 in the final. The event took place in Bangkok, Thailand. In the 73-year history of the Thomas and Uber Cup, India had never made it to the final, but the Indian boys not only ended the drought, but went one step further by becoming only the sixth country to win the trophy, following China, Indonesia, Japan, Denmark, and Malaysia. The game was being live streamed on Voot app.

India were never the clear favourites at the beginning of the team competition, but their youthful shuttlers had the firepower to defeat the giants, which they achieved during the last seven days in Bangkok, despite the women's Uber Cup quarter-final exit.

As the young Indian players stepped out all guns blazing on the big day, cries of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and the sounds of Dhol reverberated around the Impact Arena in Bangkok. The Indian badminton squad flaunted the wonderful team camaraderie that has been making headlines, following the historic triumph.

The second doubles match and the third singles match were redundant for India, as Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, and Kidambi Srikanth made it 3-0 for the historic win.

Prime Minister Modi praised the Indian men's badminton squad for winning the Thomas Cup for the very first time, saying that they have written history and that their victory will encourage many aspiring athletes.

The whole tournament was available to stream live on the platform Voot. In case you have missed the match, you can certainly feel proud as an Indian by rejoicing the match highlights on the same OTT platform. The hashtag #VootForIndia has been trending lately on the social media platforms to honour India’s valorant victory.
