The actress was recently seen as Dhanush's childhood buddy in the film Thiruchitrambalam
Ever since Dhanush's character Pazham addressed Nithya Menen's character in Thiruchitrambalam as Thaai Kelavi, the usage of the term has become quite popular. In the film, Pazham is seen trying to cheer up his friend and affectionally calling her Thaai Kelavi. They then break into the song Thaai Kelavi, which has gone on to become a chartbuster. The dance steps, too, have become quite a rage among fans.
But, it looks like some of the fans have begun addressing Nithya Menen as Thaai Kelavi off screen as well. This has not really gone well with the actress. Nithya recently revealed in an interaction on social media that she does not like the term at all and asked her fans to stop calling that. She also urged her fans to separate her onscreen and offscreen persona as her character Shobana is quite a contrast to what Nithya is in real life.
The song had earlier faced trouble as well when an activist filed a complaint stating that the song disrespected elders and that the lyrics need to be altered. The term Thaai Kelavi had become popular in the 1994 film Nattamai. In the film, Manorama, who plays the matriarch of the family, was addressed as Thaai Kelavi.
Despite all the criticisms, the song has gone on to become a chartbuster. Nithya Menen, who shook a leg for the song in the film stated that she usually avoided dancing but when Dhanush asked her to, she took to the dance floor after a long time. She also thanked the actor for making her dance.
Thiruchitrambalam success party was held in Chennai recently for which Dhanush had arrived in his look for his next, Captain Miller, directed by Arun Matheswaran. Thiruchitrambalam was directed by Mithran R Jawahar, and the star cast included Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Raashi Khanna, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bharathiraja and Prakash Raj to name a few.
