The movie, which is directed by Rathish Ambat, also has Indrajith Sukumaran and Vijay Babu in the lead
Prithviraj Sukumaran and Indrajith Sukumaran’s revenge drama cum dark comedy Theerppu is all set to get an OTT release. The movie, which was Prithviraj’s rare box office failure this year, is a multi-starrer that also has Isha Talwar, Hannah Reji Koshy, Saiju Kurup and Vijay Babu in pivotal roles and is helmed by Kammarasambhavam director Ratheesh Ambat.
The movie, which marks Prithviraj and Indrajith’s third collaboration together in Murali Gopy script after Lucifer and Tiyaan, didn’t have the duo sharing screen space but had each of them spearheading the two halves of the movie that evolves as a revenge drama initially to then transition in a dark comedy that has several historical references.
Theerppu, which is produced by Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House, was initially planned as an OTT release and was also shot as one when it went on floors after the first lockdown. Prithviraj in an earlier interview had said, “Theerppu was a film that was shot in 2020 and it was entirely conceived to be an OTT movie. The format itself is not for the big screen. So, there must have always been a confusion on how to promote the movie because I don’t think its director Rathish (Ambat), writer Murali (Gopy) or its producer Vijay Babu thought it would have foreseen an eventual theatrical release.”
The film revolves around a group of friends, who share a dark history, coming together in a night. How the events take an unexpected turn form the plot of the film, which is currently set for an OTT release on September 30 in Disney+ Hotstar.
Vijay Babu plays the central character in the film as a businessman, who runs a luxury resort with his wife, essayed by Isha Talwar. How his character came into possession of the property and the ramifications of that act are recounted when three friends – played by Prithviraj, Vijay Babu and Saiju Kurup come together.
