The Trial: Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha is Kajol's foray into the world of web series, and it's an adaptation of the American legal drama The Good Wife. The Indian version, directed by Suparn Verma, stars Jisshu Sengupta.

During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Kajol was also asked which of her many personas spanning her three-decade career could be turned into a franchise or spin-off. Kajol responded that she agrees with this sentiment and thinks that her earlier films will never be as successful again.

Kajol told the entertainment portal that the films and roles that have made her famous cannot be duplicated. The actor thinks all the films she has made so far, including the ones one considers legendary, can only be created once with the specific cast and crew involved. That sort of miracle, in her opinion, is impossible to repeat. Every movie has its own special something, in her opinion. Kajol believes that when they attempt to recreate the magic or chemistry of a film, whether good or horrible, they inevitably fail. Those movies were made for that era and that moment, and remaking them for a different audience isn't something she would be interested in.

Suparn added that, since humans change over time, so must fictional characters. He cited Simran, a character played by Kajol in Dilwale Dulhaniya ki Jayenge. For the simple reason that they evolve as people, humans progress. Therefore, that persona would have likewise changed throughout time. She will be different from before. Today, it would be extremely different, just like Simran was in DDLJ.

Kajol added to it by speculating on what she thought the future might have held for Simran from DDLJ. After 20 or 27 years in London with Raj, she'll be a badass. Both Bauji (Amrish Puri) and Mom (Farida Jalal) are now deceased.

Suparn answered that Raj (played by Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran might even be divorced, and Kajol retorted by saying, "Ho bhi sakta hai."

On July 14, Disney+ Hotstar will debut The Trial. Sheeba Chaddha, Aamir Ali, Alyy Khan, Kubbra Sait, Gaurav Pandey, and Vijay Vikram Singh are just a few of the actors who have joined Kajol.
