A single-word title is what netizens were convinced it would be
The moment that fans of Rocking Star Yash and, perhaps, the entire nation has been waiting for more than 600 days is finally here. #Yash19 is being put to rest as the official title of the actor’s next is finally out. Netizens were convinced that it would be a single word title, after banner KVN Productions’ quiz about the same. At 9.55 am today, it was announced. Yes it is a Geetu Mohandas and she and Yash took a leaf out of Britney Spear’s catalogue and have called it Toxic. While the title teaser does not give much indication about the genre or subject, the icing on the cake is that they've announced a release date. Toxic will be in theatres on 10th April 2025, almost three years to KGF: Chapter 2's release.
Yash’s 19th film is a project that’s been much-talked about even while he was still in the midst of making KGF: Chapter 2 with Prashant Neel. At the time, it was widely believed that the actor was set to collaborate with Mufti maker Narthan, who had not done a film since and was said to be working on a script for Yash. But as time went by, there was no confirmation from either party about this and Narthan eventually headed to Shivarajkumar’s camp and began working on the prequel and sequel to Mufti, Bhairathi Ranagal.
Thereafter, multiple big names from south India, including Shankar, were heard as potential directors for the film, until an official fan page of the actor stated that he would work with a woman director. Since KGF makers Hombale Films are committed to making a film with Soorarai Pottru’s Sudha Kongara, her name came up, but once it became clear that KVN Productions was backing the film, Moothon director Geetu Mohandas became the frontrunner. Her Instagram following became a keen subject of interest and any new connection, including became a potential collaborator on Yash 19.
Geetu’s earlier interview in which she spoke about doing a gangster subject from a female perspective and her working style, which does not include sticking to a bound script, all became hot topics of discussion, as also the potential choice of subject, with Goa’s drug mafia and racing top contenders. Throughout it all, in the few occasions that Yash made a public appearance and was, obviously, asked about the film, he had mantained that he was not sitting idle and that work on it was going on throughout. His trip to London and meeting with action co-ordinator JJ Perry drove excitement up further. He did, however, say, that it may not be a 'big' film, referring perhaps to the scale of KGF-2, but that it will be good and make Kannadigas proud.
