Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan's past political drama, Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu, originally released in 2012, is poised for a re-release. The return of this movie is being touted as a deliberate move to counter the upcoming biopic political drama, Yatra 2, at the box office.

Yatra 2 focuses on the life of YSR Congress chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Given the well-known political rivalry between Pawan and Jagan, the timing of the re-release of Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu is perceived as a strategic manoeuvre to challenge any political narrative that Yatra 2 aims to establish.

With just a few months remaining until the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, political parties are leveraging various media forms in their electioneering efforts. The electoral competition seems to extend even to the box office, as both films vie for attention amid the charged political atmosphere.

Political Flashback

It's worth noting that Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu caused a massive political stir in 2012, being accused of attempting to ridicule political leaders, including the late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy. This led to several political parties vehemently demanding a ban on the movie. In response to the protests, the film's screening was halted in Telangana. Only after the filmmakers agreed to implement 15 cuts to scenes and dialogues considered offensive did the screenings resume.

As Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu gears up for a re-release, its reception in the current political climate remains uncertain.

Box Office Clash or Political Duel?

On the other hand, Yatra 2 is set to narrate the story of Jagan Mohan Reddy, inheriting the political legacy of his father Rajasekhara Reddy. The teaser suggests the film will depict Jagan's struggles and triumphs over political adversaries. Written and directed by Mahi V Raghav, the movie stars Jiiva in the lead role, with Malayalam superstar Mammootty making a brief appearance as Rajasekhara Reddy. The film is due in cinemas on February 8.

Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu, written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, also stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Gabriela Bertante, Prakash Raj, and Kota Srinivasa Rao. The film is set for re-release on February 7.
