Rakshit Shetty as Manu in 'Sapta Sagaradaache Ello'

Hemanth M. Rao's latest collaboration Sapta Sagaradaache Ello with Rakshit Shetty has surely captured the imagination of the Kannada cinema audience. It is evident that the duo, along with the rest of the cast and the entire crew, has striven really hard to attempt something very new and potentially radical and one finds the public incredibly intrigued and curious to know more about this labour of love.

One of the highlights, of course, of the film is the world that Hemanth has conceived and created and the fact that Rakshit Shetty will be seen bearing two starkly distinct character shades. The two have worked before once already in Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu, but the filmmaker believes that the Rakshit Shetty we'd get to see in the upcoming film is unlike the one we encountered previously.

"The Rakshit I worked with in Godhi Banna... is completely different to the Rakshit I worked with on Sapta Sagaradaache Ello. I mean, his performance (in SSE) is so beautiful and it gives me such pleasure to say this out aloud. It is really breathtaking. And since I am one of the editors of the film, I am able to see the expression or the look he has in each shot. It's almost like he is able to switch on and then switch off to go into a zone and come out of it. That has been his individual growth as an actor and I am very confident that you will be able to see that in the film. Performances of not just Rakshit but Rukmini and the other actors as well - there is a high level of skill executed by each of them," said Hemanth M. Rao in a recent social media discussion.

Hemanth would also describe how Rakshit Shetty used his own individual method or approach to get under the skin of the character.

"It (the collaboration) is a communicative process because the actor's skill needs to be pushed a little more by the writing. In a sense that if I were to omit two lines of dialogue from the script so that the actor could express it through their eyes or a body mannerism, it becomes a challenge to them from a director's standpoint. I am trying to push them to do the absolute best that they can - it's a give-and-take process, that way, and there was this beautiful chemistry that came about between us during the shoot. Rakshit was approaching the role in his own way - he would meditate a lot, you'd normally find him with his eyes closed before a shot. Similarly, Rukmini had her own process and so did other actors. My job as a director is then to extract the performance keeping those varied approaches in sight. But, that said, you will see two completely different versions in both Side A and Side B," added Hemanth.
