The Bhopal gas tragedy was a major chemical accident that took place in December 1984. It happened at a pesticide plant in Bhopal. Over 5 lakh people were exposed to and affected by the methyl isocyanate gas leaked from an American Union Carbide Corporation. It has been claimed that this industrial disaster took nearly 16,000 lives since the incident occurred.
