The Penguin Episode 7 Ending Explained

The Penguin has quickly become one of the most intriguing recent shows. Set in the world of Batman it has managed to captivate audiences without even mentioning Bruce Wayne, let alone showing any signs of him. The show stands on its own merits, with a strong hold over an audience that has faithfully followed it for seven weeks. As we move into the show's finale, there’s much to resolve and redeem. Sofia Gigante turns out to be a destructive force in Penguin’s story, and her return from Arkham Asylum becomes the greatest challenge for Oz Cobb. Following the Riddler's havoc in Gotham and Carmine Falcone’s death, Oz is on the verge of claiming his place as Gotham's crime boss.

The Penguin Episode 7 Ending Explained

Episode 7 of The Penguin season one was a pivotal chapter, establishing Sofia and Penguin as the main players in Gotham’s power struggle. For them, everyone else is mere collateral. In the latest episode, Sofia leaves Salvatore Maroni to deal with Penguin and retrieve the Bliss drug. She underestimates the situation, though, and a chase ensues, culminating in a fierce fight. Maroni then suffers a sudden cardiac arrest and dies, leaving Oz frustrated. He wanted to win on his own terms, so he shoots Maroni’s dead body to make it appear that he was the one who killed him.

This news reaches Sofia, who begins to question her own motives and identity. She visits Gia Vitti, who confronts her about the facade Sofia has been hiding behind. Gia reveals that she saw the mask Sofia used the night she gassed her own family, and Sofia realizes she’s becoming just like her father. Determined to find her true self, even if it means going to greater extremes, Sofia chooses to abandon her father’s playbook.

The episode then shifts to Oz, who proposes an exchange—Bliss for his mother, Francis. Sofia, aware that this is a trap, plays her own game. The car supposedly carrying Francis is loaded with explosives, which destroys Oz’s base of operations. Bliss is gone, as are all of Oz's allies—his goons, employees, and supporters. Oz barely escapes through the same pit where he killed his brothers, emerging into open air, only to find himself facing Sofia’s ruthless vengeance. It’s now clear that Sofia doesn’t care about Bliss; she wants pure, unrestrained revenge against Oz.
