Steve Carell is no longer associated with the show
Dunder Mifflin has been an inseparable part of people’s lives for years at an end now. The Office’s US version, which continues to receive love till date, might just be revived soon. Reports are rife that The Office reboot is in the works and it could just air soon enough.
Likely to be announced after the strike
A report on Puck News suggests that The Office reboot is very much in the works and the makers (co-creator and executive producer Greg Daniels and the team at NBC Universal) are waiting for the Writers Guild of America strike to come to an end to make the official announcement. The strike is likely to come to an end soon, according to the talks that took place on Sunday. It is to be noted that neither Greg nor NBC have responded to the news so far.
Was supposed to continue in 2018-2019
NBC was supposed to work on The Office revival in 2018-2019. The show would be set in Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. It was supposed to star bold old as well as new members, sans Steve Carell, who bid the show adieu in season seven. The project never really took off and now, news of it being revived is making the rounds again.
Steve felt that the show wouldn’t work today
Steve Carell played the most important part in The Office for the longest time. He was inadept, self-proclaimed ‘World’s Best Boss,’ Michael Scott. Steve believes that the show would not work in today’s times because Michael made inappropriate jokes on race and sexuality in almost every episode that he featured in. He believes that a lot that is depicted on the show is wrong-minded. “There’s a very high awareness of offensive things today — which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn’t really work,” he had said.
