The Night Manager: Decoding Aditya Roy Kapur’s different looks in the series

To be released on Disney Plus Hotstar next month, the web series stars Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala

More often than not actor Aditya Roy Kapur is spoken about his strong screen presence and good looks rather than his acting skill, even though he has proved his mettle in the acting department too. As his new web series, The Night Manager, is inching towards its release date (February 17, 2023), the buzz is already created around the three different looks that he will be sporting throughout the show.

The creator and director of the series, Sandeep Modi, recently decoded the thought and process behind creating the various looks of Aditya’s character (Shaan) in the show. Giving an insight into it, Sandeep said that it was important to create different looks for his character to project different phases of his life. He also mentioned that it was quite time-consuming for the team as well as the actor to come up with new looks for the entire show. “The story was set across five years, and five different emotional stages for our character. Shaan’s character is the longest arc of the story,” she added.

Shaan has an interesting transformation professionally as well as in his personal life throughout the series. He started his journey with The Night Manager in Dhaka, then he moved to Shimla, followed by Sri Lanka. His character goes through a lot in the series.

The producer of the show said, “We decided to go with three looks for him. He’s clean-shaven, he’s bearded, and he also has stubble. So, it was tough trying to figure out how to manage each look, because each look required 5-7 days to prep right. Once you get him clean-shaven, it will require 14 days to come back to a bearded look so it was a tough production call too.” However, the team took a call so that the creativity in the storytelling stays uncompromised, said the maker of the show.

The Night Manager is an Indian adaptation of an English series that was based on the 1993 novel of the same name. The series also stars Anil Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, Saswata Chatterjee and Ravi Behl, among others. Produced by The Ink Factory and Banijay Asia, the web series is all set to be released on Disney Plus Hotstar next month.
