Prem Kumar's 96 (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, was one of the beautiful romantic dramas to have released in Tamil in the recent times. The film which released in 2018 went on to be a runaway hit at the box office. The characters, Ram and Jaanu played by Vijay and Trisha respectively in the movie, made an impressive impact in the minds of movie buffs.

The film's story revolved around a few classmates who meet after 22 years at a reunion event. How two among them who share a special feeling for each other recollect their memories forms the rest of the story.

Social media has been abuzz with the news of a sequel to the movie for the last couple of days. However, when OTTplay contacted directed Prem, he quashed it as a baseless rumour. He said, "The news regarding a sequel to 96 is completely untrue. I don't know who is behind this rumour. I have been getting several enquiries based on this false news."

The filmmaker also added that he is currently busy with the scripting of a new project, the details of which, can't be revealed now. "I have regularly been getting distracted from the time the pandemic had hit us. For now, my complete focus is on the story which I'm writing," he added.

Apart from the performances of its lead actors, what stood out in 96 was the music composed by Govind Vasantha. Mahendiran Jayaraju and N Shanmuga Sundaram have cranked the camera for the movie which was edited by R Govindaraj.

Gouri G Kishan, Varsha Bollamma, Devadarshini, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Bagavathi Perumal and Janagaraj among others played pivotal characters in the film which also won several awards.
