The Kerala Story, the most recent box office smash with Adah Sharma in the lead, doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Even before it was released, the movie was the subject of intense controversy since its makers insisted it was based on actual events that had place in Kerala.
The movie earned 231 crores nett at the Indian box office up to yesterday. Despite being in its fourth week, the movie is still doing well at the box office. In terms of revenue this year, this is Bollywood's second-highest earner behind Pathaan.
Now, according to the reports by 91mobiles.com, the controversial movie is getting an OTT release later this month. ZEE5 has bought digital rights for the movie as per the website.
The story of three teenage girls from Kerala who are coerced into joining the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and converting to Islam serves as the basis for the film. Shalini Unnikrishnan, a Hindu woman from Kerala who is studying nursing but is ultimately coerced and tricked into converting into Muslim, is the main subject of the film. She is subsequently transferred to Syria where she is forced to join ISIS before being captured and held captive in Afghanistan.
The movie's original plot stated that 32,000 girls from Kerala had been coerced into joining an extremist group, but it was later revised in response to backlash on social media and a court injunction.
