Sudipto Sen's contentious movie The Kerala Story received criticism and was outlawed in a number of places, including West Bengal.
The Kerala Story, a controversial movie by director Sudipto Sen, has remained obscure even before it opens in theatres on May 5. The movie's highest-ever day for revenue was Sunday (May 7), when it brought in approximately Rs 16 crore. Despite a drop in attendance, the movie still managed to earn double digits. The Bengal government has banned the movie, which has increased the criticism against The Kerala Story.
Early estimates indicate that the Adah Sharma-starring film increased its take by about 10% from Monday's total and earned around Rs 11 crore. The Kerala Story has already earned Rs 57 crore in five straight days of sales.
The Kerala Story made Rs 8 crore on its opening day, making it the fifth-highest opening for a Hindi film in 2023 behind Pathaan (Rs 55 crore), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, starring Salman Khan (Rs 15.81 crore), the romance drama Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor (Rs 15.7 crore), and the Bholaa, starring Ajay Devgn (Rs 11 crore). Its opening-day revenue exceeded that of the Selfiee and Shehzada.
Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idhani play the key characters in the movie. It centres on Kerala's forced conversion of non-Muslim girls. It was charged with "falsely claiming" that 32,000 women were recruited for terror missions after becoming radicalised. Even though the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) declared it was appropriate for public watching, numerous petitions asking for a delay in its release were filed.
An innocent Hindu woman from Kerala who is misled by Islamic friends and converted is the central character of The Kerala Story. Later, she gets transferred to the ISIS terrorist group. The movie is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen. According to the film's claims, 32,000 women from Kerala were caught in this risky plan in real-life occurrences.
