The sports drama, which also stars Mrunal Thakur, is a remake of Nani’s 2019 Telugu film of the same name
Shahid Kapoor is making a comeback to the big screen after almost three years with Jersey. The star recently made an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show to promote his film along with his co-star Mrunal Thakur, sharing some light-hearted moments with Kapil Sharma on the couch.
Kapoor talked about how he did not think he would be doing another remake, so soon after 2019’s Kabir Singh. Kabir Singh is a remake of the Telugu film, Arjun Reddy, while Jersey is the Hindi remake of Nani’s 2019 film of the same name.
The actor opened up about how he had an ‘emotional breakdown’ after watching Nani’s original film, and he resonated with the film’s themes of achieving success late in life. Being 38 at the time himself, Kapoor felt that his films were not doing as well as he wanted them to. He said that he was touched by how the film depicted the message that one’s efforts should not be defined by one’s circumstances, and how efforts should persevere. Calling it ‘emotional and uplifting’ he said that the film left him motivated, and he wants to impart the same feeling to audiences through his film as well.
In a light-hearted moment, Sharma joked if Kapoor sleeps in a lungi these days, as the star had remade two South Indian films back to back. Kapoor was quick in his reply, saying that if the film was as successful and loved by audiences as Kabir Singh, he would definitely be ready to wear a lungi.
