In 2023, Indrani released her book, Unbroken which addresses a family gathering scheduled for August 25, 2015, in honour of her birthday. However, that day, while she was leaving Anand Ashram, a group of plainclothes policemen of the Mumbai Police approached her, and everything changed. She was accused of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora.
As word got out and more information became available, Indrani discovered herself in the midst of a shocking murder case. The media had detected blood due to an ever-growing list of suspects, the emergence of a dark scheme, and the overpowering scent of scandal. As time went on, Indrani became a household name thanks to the relentless scrutiny of news reporters and TV hosts. The case had it all: filicide accusations, shattered marriages, a huge commercial empire, the glittering lives of the famous and wealthy, influential politicians, and a difficult family. People all throughout the nation were increasingly interested in this woman, who was at the centre of all the drama and rumours, as the trial continued to be extensively covered in the media.
Indrani spared no detail in her autobiography, Unbroken in which she detailed her entire story, from her upbringing in Guwahati to her time in Calcutta in the 1980s, her ascent to media barondom in Mumbai, and lastly, the 2,460 days she spent as prisoner number 1468 in Byculla jail.
The book is an unflinching recounting of the narrative of a woman who, in spite of everything, stays unbroken. Her memoir also speaks to the strength of human resilience, the devastating impact of betrayal and grief, and the fragility of human relationships.
