The Impossible Heir Story

Disney+ Hotstar’s latest K-drama, The Impossible Heir, premiered on February 28 with an action-packed opening scene. The first episode, titled Fate, is about the coming-of-age of three underdogs, Han Tae Oh, Kang In-ha, and Na Hye Won. Each of the main characters has a troubled past and strives to turn their fate around. Beginning with a gory and bloody crime scene, the drama quickly goes to flashbacks and introduces us to the characters. Han Tae-oh arrives at his mother’s hometown to begin a new journey and meets the illegitimate third son of an affluent Chaebol family of the Kangoh Group.

The high schoolers have a rocky start but slowly bond over their shared disgrace throughout their childhood (one is a murderer’s son, the other an illegitimate son). Their unlikely friendship or partnership gets deeper when they join Hankuk University together and have a chance encounter with the third lead, Na Hye-won, who attends the same college.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger when Ne Hye-won lands a new deal with Tae-oh, which might change their relationship dynamics.
