The House trailer: Netflix animated anthology is equal parts unsettling and intriguing

Netflix is all set to drop its latest entry in the category of animated content for adults. The streaming giant has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming stop motion film, The House, and it is definitely fascinating, to say the least.

The anthology film consists of three separate stories that take place over different time periods with only one thing connecting the people involved- they all live in the same house. The trailer opens with some unsettling sequences as viewers are introduced to the three different groups of residents who move into the house.

The first one takes place in the past and traces the story of a poor family, parents and their two children, who move into the house which is offered to them by a wealthy benefactor.

The second is set in the 21st century and follows a rat who is a property developer. His plans of renovating the house and making a profit out of its sale is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of some guests.

The third and final story, set in the future, is about an optimistic calico cat who wants to restore and get back the lost glory of the house, but her plans go awry due to some strange happenings.

As the trailer progresses, viewers can see the optimism and excitement of the house’s new residents slowly turn into confusion, frustration and in some cases, growing insanity.

The anthology is helmed by four directors- Niki Lindroth von Bahr, Paloma Baeza and Emma de Swaef and Marc Roels.

The House will be available to stream on Netflix from January 14, 2022.
