The dystopian series based on the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale, which has had five seasons so far is set for its sixth and final season. First telecast in 2017, the sixth season of the show created by Bruce Miller, will return with the last set of 10 episodes later this month. The show, which has been available to audiences in India on Amazon Prime Video, has got a streaming date for the final season. All episodes of the final season will be available from April 8.

The plot of the Handmaid’s Tale is set in a dystopia following a Second American Civil War wherein a theonomic, totalitarian society subjects fertile women to child-bearing slavery. This is a society where women are not allowed to own property, have careers, money, read and write, etc.

The show’s cat includes Elisabeth Moss, as June Osborne, who is forced to become a handmaid, Ann Dowd, Madeline Brewer, Max Minghela, Sam Jaeger, Josh Charles, Samira Wiley, Amanda Brugel, among others. According to an official note from the streamer, in the final season, June Osborne finds herself once again drawn into the resistance to take down Gilead.

The sixth and final season comes more than two years after the fifth and picks up with with June and Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) aboard a refugee train heading for Alaska or Hawaii. The series is produced by MGM Television. Season Six has been executive produced by Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, Elisabeth Moss, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark, Kim Todd, Daniel Wilson, and Fran Sears. The series which made history as the first streaming series to win the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in 2017, is internationally distributed by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution.
