The Fame Game: Madhuri Dixit's Netflix series inspired by disappearance of Chinese star Fan Bingbing?

The Fame Game

Madhuri Dixit has been receiving positive reviews for her OTT debut with the Netflix series, The Fame Game. The series, which released on February 25, is about the life of a global star Anamika Anand, played by Madhuri Dixit. It follows her life and her disappearance under mysterious circumstances, uncovering some hidden truths and dark secrets of her life.

The series is said to be a rollercoaster ride with great suspense, thriller and mystery. It is now being said that the show is inspired by the disappearance of Chinese star Fan Binging.

Fan Binging is one of the highest-paid actresses in China who suddenly disappeared for three months, from July to October, in 2018. The 37-year-old actress is known for a plethora of movies in China and her role in the X-Men franchise. Her fans were anxious, wondering about the reason behind her sudden disappearance. In August, the actress' fiance was seen without his engagement ring on a video interaction online, which led to several speculations and theories. There were also rumours that she was in Los Angeles, seeking counsel from Jackie Chan but Chan soon dismissed the news. The actress did not make a public appearance even on her birthday and many brands even dropped her as a brand ambassador.

Later, the reason behind her vanishing is to avoid investigations for tax evasions. Reportedly, her companies have evaded 248 million yuan in taxes. She finally reappeared in public on October 3, 2018. There were reports that she was held under a form of detention, a 'residential surveillance' at a resort. According to Bollywoodbubble, she later issued an apology letter, saying she had endured “an unprecedented amount of pain” and she felt “ashamed and guilty” for not setting a good example. She further said, “Today I’m facing enormous fears and worries over the mistakes I made! I have failed the country, society’s support and trust, and the love of my devoted fans! I offer my sincere apology here once again! I beg for everyone’s forgiveness!”
