The third instalment of the series, The Equalizer 3 hit the big screens worldwide on September 1 to positive reviews from critics with the audiences, too, reacting well to the film.

Made at a budget of $70 million, the Antoine Fuqua film is said to have grossed more than $190 million to emerge as a commercial success.

The Equalizer 3 to make its bona fide OTT debut

Following a fruitful theatrical run, The Equalizer 3 dropped on OTT a few weeks ago in October but with a catch. The film debuted on both Amazon Prime Video and Book My Show but with a rent/buy option, compelling the franchise lovers to endure a slightly longer wait for the free version of the film.

Well, the wait is finally over - The Equalizer 3 is set to drop on Netflix India on December 1, 2023, and the streamer's subscribers will be able to stream the actioner without any of the previous snags.

Robert McCall, the Man with the Past

Over the years, Denzel Washington has played several characters shrouded in mystique and intrigue. His roles in films like the neo-noir The Devil in the Blue Dress, Antoine Fuqua's own Training Day Tony Scott's action-thrillers Man on Fire & Déjà Vu, the Frank Lucas biopic American Gangster, and a few others come to mind, revealing that he has been one of the most versatile actors of his and the subsequent generations. With The Equalizer series, he cemented his position as a bankable star who, despite the repetitive nature of the franchise model, can deliver carry a film on his shoulders with compelling performances.

We first meet Robert McCall, a retired US Marine and Defense Intelligence Agency officer, in the 2014 film The Equalizer and immediately realize that more to him than meets the eye. Antoine Fuqua's film, which kicked off the franchise, slowly peels off the layers of McCall's personality and soon enough, we realize that the man is capable of meticulously, yet brutally, destroying his opponents. It is at this point that Robert McCall finds himself compelled to take on bigger and mightier adversities so as to protect the innocent.

The Equalizer 2 released in 2018, sees McCall go on a deadly globe-trotting mission, with the sequel raising the stakes further for him. The Equalizer 3 show how he takes on the lethal Italian mafia organization Camorra to come in aid of a small group of friends he makes in South Italy. You can watch the trailer here:

The latest film also stars Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, David Denman and others. There have been talks about Fuqua wanting to explore the origins of Robert McCall in a prequel sort-of project with both Denzel Washington's son John David Washington and Michael B. Jordan supposedly on the radar for the role.
