Disney+Hotstar had a hit on its hands with its recent web series The Empire which became an instant fan favourite. The historical drama, which chronicles the story of one of the most prolific royal families of South Asia, the Mughal Empire, dropped on the streaming giant’s platform last month. In addition to receiving widespread praise and getting a host of people buzzing about it on social media, the show also etched its name in pop culture through an unexpected triade of memes it sparked.

Kunal Kapoor certainly has a wide range of roles in his acting repertoire, but none might have gained him the opportunity of being the subject of hilarious memes as his most recent has. The actor’s awe-inspiring look as the warrior emperor Babur was the centre of the meme mania, with many memes even drawing comparisons of his appearance to characters on Game of Thrones.

Some even drew inspiration from his previous contemporary characters as well, placing them side-by-side to his regal one. A few shed the comedic punch line entirely, praising how attractive Kapoor looked as the emperor.

In addition to the jokes, many even paid tribute to the Rang De Basanti actor's roles through some impressive artworks.

Not only the popular actor, but the show’s premise and historical context was also not spared either. One viewer also poked fun at its fictionalised version of real-life historical events as well.

The Empire tells the story of the Mughal Empire beginning from the reign of Babur and features some seasoned Bollywood names sharing the screen with Kunal Kapoor, such as Shabana Azmi, Drashti Dhami and Dino Morea, among others.
