What to expect from The Crown Season 6?

Season 5 saw the cast of the show get one final 'wholesale' replacement with Imelda Staunton taking over the reins as Queen Elizabeth II and Claire Foy featuring as the younger version of the character. A large portion of the narrative of this season was dedicated to the marital issues between Princess Diana and Prince Charles while the rest of it focused on the apparent cracks in the monarchy, including Elizabeth's annus horribilis in 1992. Another major highlight of The Crown Season 5 is the entry of Diana's lover Dodi Fayed into the scheme of things.

Dominic West joined the cast as Prince Charles with Elizabeth Debicki coming in to play Princess Diana, Jonathan Pryce for Prince Philip, Lesley Manville for Princess Margaret, Olivia Williams for Camilla Parker Bowles and Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed. The same cast reprises respective roles in Season 6.

Season 6 will trace the events that occurred in the Royal Family between 1997 and 2005 and in essence, will take off from the previous season was concluded. Queen Elizabeth's struggles to modernize the monarchy are expected to be lent a new edge with another focus area of the new season being Tony Blair's stint as the prime minister of the United Kingdom. The wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones, too, finds its place in the narrative and so does the death of Princess Margaret, among other things.

But most importantly, The Crown Season 6 will lay a strong focus on Princess Diana's final days before she tragically passed away in a car accident. The same car crash, which occurred in Paris on 31 August 1997, also claimed the lives of Dodi Fayed and the driver Henri Paul and the finale season is set to show the events both prior to and after the fatal crash.

The early romance of Prince William and Kate Middleton

Season 6 will show the early romance that blossoms between Prince William and Kate Middleton and the stills shared by the makers reveal that this part of the narrative will take place in the university that the two studied in. Rufus Kampa will play a young Prince William with Ed McVey set to play the late-teen and slightly older version. Meg Bellamy will be seen as Kate Middleton.
