The 10-part period drama by Akiva Goldsman will premiere with three episodes, followed by seven weekly episodes
The Crowded Room, a period psychological thriller series created by Akiva Goldsman, the screenwriter of several acclaimed works like A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, among many others, has picked its streaming date. The 10-part drama, which has Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried, and Emmy Rossum in the lead, is coming to Apple TV+ starting June 9. The series will premiere with three episodes dropping on June 9. Thereafter, there will be seven weekly episodes with the series set to conclude on July 28.
The series follows Danny Sullivan, played by Tom Holland, after he is arrested for his involvement in a New York City shooting in 1979. Danny unveils his life through a series of interviews with interrogator Rya Goodwin (Seyfried), and slowly details to her, and the audience, his mysterious past that led him to the fateful incident. As Danny retrospectively examines his life, he reckons with his past and a few pivotal moments, that ultimately leads him to uncover a life-altering revelation.
Lead actor Tom, who is no stranger to playing physically challenging roles, has been quoted as saying that the role of Danny Sullivan ‘beat him up mentally’. Speaking to the Entertainment Weekly, Tom said, “I'm no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing, but the mental aspect really beat me up and it took a long time for me to recover afterwards, to sort of get back to reality." The actor admits that after nine months of filming the series, he came to a point at which he found it difficult to detach from the character and even had a bit of a meltdown at home.
The Crowded Room, inspired by a true story, and based on the 1981 novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, will start streaming on Apple TV+ on June 9, 2023.
