The Brother’s Sun is a bloody action comedy that serves wholesome family entertainment, garnished extra with kung fu chops, goon-ey gray matter, and family values. A fruit borne of a four-year contract, thanks to Brad Falchuk and a streaming powerhouse, the eight-episode show features early next year.
Dropping its teaser on November 11, 2023, the series brandished an impressive cast as well as streaming platform. The Brother’s Sun is set to premiere on Netflix on January 4, 2024. The Tudum original also dropped its trailer on December 7, 2023.
Starring Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien and Sam Song Li in the leading roles, The Brother’s Sun is a thriller series that follows the life of Eileen, who was a matriarch of a Taiwanese gangster triad. But when Big Sun, the leader dies, a new faction desperate for power arises, and chases after the ‘mama’ of two.

As the trailer pellucidly reveals, the world knew about Eileen’s elder son, Charles ‘Chairleg’ Sun, a highly skilled killer cum gangster. But when her enemies discover her weak point, her younger son Bruce, who is as squishy and naive as Buzz Lightyear who initially thought of himself to be a real astronaut in a similar manner.
By the time Bruce realizes he is being, his brother Charles is already in LA to protect him and their mother. But the matriarch needs a solution and not a bodyguard, she is skilled enough to take down any killer. But for hordes of them, even she requires help.
As Bruce gets accustomed to the uncomfortable idea of suddenly having an elder, domineering, scary but caring brother, Eileen too has to face the consequences of leaving behind a son to begin a fresh, safer life for another. As the family grapples with truth and the real meaning of what being one is, it must also heal the raw familial wounds that have remained untended over the years.
