The Broken News, directed by Vinay Waikul recently began streaming on ZEE5. The show is an adaptation of the British series Press (2018 BBC One series created by playwright-screenwriter Mike Bartlett) and stars Sonali Bendre, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead.

The plot revolves around two rival television channels that function out a same building in Mumbai and represent two opposing ideologies of journalism and the journalists as they navigate through their professional personal lives. While Sonali Bendre plays Amina Qureshi, who heads one of the channels and plays by the rules, Jaideep Ahlawat plays Dipanker Sanyal, who believes in sensationalism. Shriya Pilagaonkar, on the other hand, plays the investigative journalist Radha, is completely against it.

Though Shriya and Jaideep play journalists of opposing ideologies, off screen, they share a warm relationship with each other. Shriya recently shared a picture of the duo together and said that the experience working in The Broken News wouldn't have been the same without Jaideep. She wrote, "Radha & Dipankar on & off duty.♥️🖤Yaara, this experience wouldn’t have been the same without you. @jaideepahlawat, aapko pata hai how much our conversations have meant to me . I love you & truly cherish this reel & real friendship. ♥️ #TheBrokenNews @zee5 (sic)."

Jaideep, too, called Shriya her friend and said that it was a fantastic journey with her. He wrote, "What a journey it was with you Yaara ❤️❤️❤️Thank you for everything 🤗🤗🤗Love You too and this Friendship on and off screen, as you said 🤗🤗❤️❤️🤗🤗.Keep Shining … Keep Rocking 🤗🤗 (sic)." The show, which is an 8-part-series, began airing on ZEE5 on June 10 and has been receiving mixed reviews from the critics and audience, but has been applauded for the attempt. The Broken News also marks the acting comeback of the '90s actress Sonali Bendre, after her battle with cancer. This is her maiden OTT project.
